Apostasy Occurs Among Christians - Dan Corner
Dan Corner[You are encouraged and permitted to duplicate this article, but only without additions, alterations or omissions, including our ministry address at the end.]
Could this be the Great Apostasy?
Apostasy (departure from the faith) is a definite possibility among Christians, even though it is sometimes vehemently denied by the security-in-sin teachers, better known as eternal security or the perseverance of the saints teachers. In fact, apostasy is taught so often throughout the New Testament that it is difficult to believe that anyone sincerely desiring truth could miss it. To be precise it is found in almost every New Testament book. The only two exceptions are Philemon and 3 John. Sometimes it is clearly shown as much as six or more times in a single book, such as in Hebrews or 1 Timothy. In other books, departure (or its possibility) from the Christian faith is shown four or five times. Hence, there is sufficient evidence in the Scriptures to know with absolute certainty that apostasy can and does occur.
Therefore it is a real, deadly danger among the saved in our hour. To be aware of this fact will help keep a Christian on his spiritual guard for survival’s sake (John 15:18-16:1). Knowledge of this is a preventative. On the other hand, to deny this glaring truth and think you must always stand firm is to set yourself and your listeners up for a spiritual fall. True grace teaching is emphatic on this:
1 Cor 10:12 So, if you think you are standing firm, be careful that you don’t fall! (This is reason enough to leave any so-called church that teaches eternal security and take as many out of there with you that you can.)
Below are specific verses showing the possibility of apostasy, or actual examples of such, in 25 of the 27 New Testament books—that is a total of 93% of the New Testament books which cite specific examples or imply the possibility that true Christians can go back to wickedness (and lose their salvation).
Matthew
At that time many will turn away from the faith and will betray and hate each other, and many false prophets will appear and deceive many people (24:10,11).
Mark
“You will all fall away,” Jesus told them, “for it is written: I will strike the shepherd, and the sheep will be scattered ....” (14:27). NOTE: Jesus taught it is the sheep, not those never saved, who fall away.
Luke
“... They believe for a while, but in the time of testing they fall away. (8:13).
John
From this time many of his disciples turned back and no longer followed him (6:66).
Acts
“... there will be a resurrection of both the righteous and the wicked. So I strive always to keep my conscience clear before God and man (24:15,16).
Romans
You will say then, “Branches were broken off so that I could be grafted in.” Granted. But they were broken off because of unbelief, and you stand by faith. Do not be arrogant, but be afraid. For if God did not spare the natural branches, he will not spare you either. Consider therefore the kindness and sternness of God: sternness to those who fell, but kindness to you, provided that you continue in his kindness. Otherwise, you also will be cut off. And if they do not persist in unbelief, they will be grafted in, for God is able to graft them in again (11:19-23).
1 Corinthians
No, I beat my body and make it my slave so that after I have preached to others, I myself will not be disqualified for the prize (9:27).
2 Corinthians
Examine yourselves to see whether you are in the faith; test yourselves. Do you not realize that Christ Jesus is in you—unless, of course, you fail the test? (13:5).
Galatians
I am astonished that you are so quickly deserting the one who called you by the grace of Christ and are turning to a different gospel—which is really no gospel at all. Evidently some people are throwing you into confusion and are trying to pervert the gospel of Christ (1:6,7).
Ephesians
For of this you can be sure: No immoral, impure or greedy person—such a man is an idolater—has any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God. Let no one deceive you with empty words, for because of such things God’s wrath comes on those who are disobedient. Therefore do not be partners with them (5:5-7).
Philippians
I want to know Christ and the power of his resurrection and the fellowship of sharing in his sufferings, becoming like him in his death, and so, somehow, to attain to the resurrection from the dead. Not that I have already obtained all this, or have already been made perfect, but I press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me (3:10-12).
Colossians
But now he has reconciled you by Christ’s physical body through death to present you holy in his sight, without blemish and free from accusation—if you continue in your faith, established and firm, not moved from the hope held out in the gospel. This is the gospel that you heard and that has been proclaimed to every creature under heaven, and of which I, Paul, have become a servant (1:22,23).
1 Thessalonians
It is God’s will that you should be sanctified: that you should avoid sexual immorality; that each of you should learn to control his own body in a way that is holy and honorable, not in passionate lust like the heathen, who do not know God; and that in this matter no one should wrong his brother or take advantage of him. The Lord will punish men for all such sins, as we have already told you and warned you. For God did not call us to be impure, but to live a holy life. Therefore, he who rejects this instruction does not reject man but God, who gives you his Holy Spirit (4:3-8).
2 Thessalonians
Let no one in any way deceive you, for it will not come unless the apostasy comes first, and the man of lawlessness is revealed, the son of destruction (2:3).
1 Timothy
holding on to faith and a good conscience. Some have rejected these and so have shipwrecked their faith. Among them are Hymenaeus and Alexander, whom I have handed over to Satan to be taught not to blaspheme (1:19,20).
2 Timothy
Avoid godless chatter, because those who indulge in it will become more and more ungodly. Their teaching will spread like gangrene. Among them are Hymenaeus and Philetus, who have wandered away from the truth. They say that the resurrection has already taken place, and they destroy the faith of some (2:16-18).
Titus
so that, having been justified by his grace, we might become heirs having the hope of eternal life (3:7).
Hebrews
For in the case of those who have once been enlightened and have tasted of the heavenly gift and have been made partakers of the Holy Spirit, and have tasted the good word of God and the powers of the age to come, and then have fallen away, it is impossible to renew them again to repentance, since they again crucify to themselves the Son of God and put Him to open shame (6:4-6).
James
My brethren, if any among you strays from the truth, and one turns him back, let him know that he who turns a sinner from the error of his way will save his soul from death, and will cover a multitude of sins (5:19,20).
1 Peter
As obedient children, do not conform to the evil desires you had when you lived in ignorance. (1
Pet 1:14)
2 Peter
If they have escaped the corruption of the world by knowing our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and are again entangled in it and overcome, they are worse off at the end than they were at the beginning. It would have been better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than to have known it and then to turn their backs on the sacred command that was passed on to them. Of them the proverbs are true: “A dog returns to its vomit,” and, “A sow that is washed goes back to her wallowing in the mud” (2:20-22).
1 John
See that what you have heard from the beginning remains in you. If it does, you also will remain in the Son and in the Father. And this is what he promised us—even eternal life (2:24,25).
2 John
Anyone who runs ahead and does not continue in the teaching of Christ does not have God; whoever continues in the teaching has both the Father and the Son (1:9).
Jude
Though you already know all this, I want to remind you that the Lord delivered his people out of Egypt, but later destroyed those who did not believe. And the angels who did not keep their positions of authority but abandoned their own home—these he has kept in darkness, bound with everlasting chains for judgment on the great Day (1:5,6).
Revelation
Do not be afraid of what you are about to suffer. I tell you, the devil will put some of you in prison to test you, and you will suffer persecution for ten days. Be faithful, even to the point of death, and I will give you the crown of life. He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. He who overcomes will not be hurt at all by the second death (2:10,11). NOTE: The second death is another name for the lake of fire (Rev. 21:8).
The Present Massive Deception With all of the above Scriptural evidence, which contradicts the security-in-sin gospel (eternal security), one has to wonder how Bible-believers can remain in such denial about this reality. Apparently, the slick-talking, ear-tickling eternal security teachers, with their infernal talents of distorting the Word of God, have been so successful with their lies that multitudes of souls remain in jeopardy. Dear reader, what are you going to do about this urgent need to get this vital truth out, before it is too late?

There is nothing in 1 Cor. 5:1-5 or anywhere else in the Bible that teaches the deadly doctrine of eternal security. On at least three counts eternal security is not taught in 1 Cor. 5.
1. The unnamed man of 1 Cor. 5:1 was guilty of sexual immorality. This same person is referred to in v. 13 as wicked.
Expel the wicked man from among you (1 Cor. 5:13).
The same Greek word translated wicked in that verse is also found in Mt. 13:49,50:
This is how it will be at the end of the age. The angels will come and separate the wicked from the righteous and throw them into the fiery furnace, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.
Hence, the unnamed man of 1 Cor. 5:1 couldn’t be saved and be headed for the fiery furnace at the same time like that man!
2. Also, the same word translated sexual immorality in 1 Cor. 5:1 is found in Gal. 5:19-21:
The acts of the sinful nature are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery; idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like. I warn you, as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God.
Therefore, people such as those mentioned in 1 Cor. 5:1, will not inherit the kingdom of God because of this type of sin. Instead, they are headed for the fiery furnace, as recently proven. (To not inherit the kingdom of God is to be thrown into the fiery furnace.)3. 1 Cor. 5:5 speaks of an action that needed to be done to that wicked man so that he may be saved. (Eternal security proponents with itching ears have been wrongly taught may be saved means is saved at this moment and want to believe it).
Those same words found in v. 5, may be saved are found just 5 chapters later in 1 Cor. 10:33 and clearly refer to those who need to be saved, not those saved at this moment:Even as I try to please everybody in every way. For I am not seeking my own good but the good of many, so that they may be saved.
This passage in 1 Cor. 5:5 that has been violently twisted, in a deadly attempt to allow for saints (or holy ones) to be sexually immoral, shows the license for immorality that eternal security really is. We can produce numerous quotes from respected and esteemed so-called “Christian” teachers that teach this poisonous doctrine of eternal security. For example, Dave Hunt wrote:
The man who had “his father’s wife”—a terrible sin—didn’t lose his salvation thereby.
All eternal security teachers are very dangerous people, with no exception. Please read our other supporting article on this http://www.evangelicaloutreach.org/esteachers.htm
God’s Truth
The truth is: There are not two types of sexually immoral people as the eternal security teachers want us to think—one that is saved because in the past he was regenerated and one that is unsaved because he never was regenerated. There is only one type of sexually immoral person and he is always an unsaved person headed for the fiery furnace and in desperate need of forgiveness.
The eternal security teachers have distorted 1 Cor. 5, which teaches the sexually immoral man was unsaved, into the exact opposite of what it really says. That has opened a door for multitudes of immoral people to think they are still saved even though they are now in this same type of wickedness. Where are the true teachers that will stand opposed to the big names and this doctrine of demons? To be forgiven, turn from your sins and place your submissive faith (trust) 100% in the Jewish Messiah, Jesus of Nazareth.
MUCH more related information on eternal security is found in our never-to-be-refuted book, “The Believer’s Conditional Security.”

Once Saved Always Saved?
Matthew 7:21 “Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter into the kingdom of heaven – only the one who does the will of my Father in heaven. 7:22 On that day, many will say to me, ‘Lord, Lord, didn’t we prophesy in your name, and in your name cast out demons and do many powerful deeds?’ 7:23 Then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you. Go away from me, you lawbreakers!
Now let's look another passage also from the book of Matthew.
Matthew 5:17 “Do not think that I have come to abolish the law or the prophets. I have not come to abolish these things but to fulfill them. 5:18 I tell you the truth, until heaven and earth pass away not the smallest letter or stroke of a letter will pass from the law until everything takes place. 5:19 So anyone who breaks one of the least of these commands and teaches others to do so will be called least in the kingdom of heaven, but whoever obeys them and teaches others to do so will be called great in the kingdom of heaven. 5:20 For I tell you, unless your righteousness goes beyond that of the experts in the law and the Pharisees, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven.
Now if you cross reference these 2 passages you would notice that the concept of "Once Saved Always Saved" becomes debateable and questionable.
Now let's look at The story of Ananias and Sapphira in the book of Acts.
Acts 4:32 The group of those who believed were of one heart and mind, and no one said that any of his possessions was his own, but everything was held in common. 4:33 With great power the apostles were giving testimony to the resurrection of the Lord Jesus, and great grace was on them all. 4:34 For there was no one needy among them, because those who were owners of land or houses were selling them and bringing the proceeds from the sales 4:35 and placing them at the apostles’ feet. The proceeds were distributed to each, as anyone had need. 4:36 So Joseph, a Levite who was a native of Cyprus, called by the apostles Barnabas (which is translated “son of encouragement”), 4:37 sold a field that belonged to him and brought the money and placed it at the apostles’ feet.
5:1 Now a man named Ananias, together with Sapphira his wife, sold a piece of property. 5:2 He kept back for himself part of the proceeds with his wife’s knowledge; he brought only part of it and placed it at the apostles’ feet. 5:3 But Peter said, “Ananias, why has Satan filled your heart to lie to the Holy Spirit and keep back for yourself part of the proceeds from the sale of the land? 5:4 Before it was sold, did it not belong to you? And when it was sold, was the money not at your disposal? How have you thought up this deed in your heart? You have not lied to people but to God!”
5:5 When Ananias heard these words he collapsed and died, and great fear gripped all who heard about it. 5:6 So the young men came, wrapped him up, carried him out, and buried him. 5:7 After an interval of about three hours, his wife came in, but she did not know what had happened. 5:8 Peter said to her, “Tell me, were the two of you paid this amount for the land?” Sapphira said, “Yes, that much.” 5:9 Peter then told her, “Why have you agreed together to test the Spirit of the Lord? Look! The feet of those who have buried your husband are at the door, and they will carry you out!” 5:10 At once she collapsed at his feet and died. So when the young men came in, they found her dead, and they carried her out and buried her beside her husband. 5:11 Great fear gripped the whole church and all who heard about these things.
What could have caused sudden death in humans? In most cases these deaths are cardio related (Heart Attack) different people interprete this passage differently what was told to me is God somehow allowed this to happen for the sake of other brothers and sisters who whole heartly sow into the Kingdom of God. From the passage above we could clearly see if we do not walk closely with the Lord its gives Satan a chance to come into our lives and leave a foothold there.
Romens 14:13 Let us not therefore judge one another any more: but judge this rather, that no man put a stumbling block or an occasion to fall in his brother’s way."
A sin is a sin there is neither major or minor the punishement of sin is death and Jesus Christ paid for us with His life so that we may live and have a personal relationship with the Lord. Now Ananias and Sapphira can be stumbling block to the community therefore God had somehow allowed them to be cut off from the community. Now the salvation of Ananias and Sapphira becomes questionable and debateable.
I'm a firm believer of Grace yes look unto the finished work Jesus Christ on the cross. The law has been fullfilled. The Grace of God and His gift of righteousness enabling us to overcome sin we can only apply this theory when we truely and fully understand God's character and His uncondition love for us and this is what I call true Grace.
In conculsion we must always walk closely with the Lord and feed on His word so that we stay close to the fire and remain hot! When we are truly on fire for God it will create a protective force against Satan and his devices! Last but not least it is not for us to judge or question one's salvation under any circumstances this is between our Lord Jesus Christ and themselves.

Spiritual Life @ New Creation Church
Today will be my first cell meeting and it so happen to be a cell outing, dinner and board games at Mind’s CafĂ©. New Creation’s young singles working adult care groups operates slightly different from OneLife, basically we will have care group meetings twice a month and arrow service twice a month. New Creation Church’s definition of young adult is below 29 sorry for those above 29
However the good news is when we are under grace we will be connected to God and we will naturally seek after His Kingdom as time goes by well God made mankind this way we at some point of our lives we feel the need of spiritual connection be it whether you are a Christian or not. Lastly we being his children we inherit His righteous and that will keep us away from SIN and that is our goal so we must stop relying on our owe efforts instead we should rely on Him and accept His Grace Amen!

A Short Testimony
I was having lunch my colleagues today and I happen to strike a conversion with this new colleague of mine as usual we then introduced ourselves which includes the faith we subscribed to. He told me is a Buddhist well I always respected Buddha because of his righteousness and his teachings. I then pop the question can you keep the commandments of Buddha? Let say “you should not kill” Quoting from the book what Buddha’s definition is not to take life from all things that has life. You will be surprise the list includes germs, bacteria, viruses and the list goes on and when you are sick and if you do take anti-biotic you have already broken this commandment because anti-biotic not only kills the germs and bacteria, it also kills your own antibodies.

Uncertain Future
We have this day we owe to Him who died on the cross our SIN He was sinless made SINFUL. My future seems to be uncertain and unclear and I do not know what to do and my track record for relationships is something that I will not talk about and its pointless. This being part of my weakness can cause me of my salvation and drift away from God and might even removed away from the Kingdom of God.
What should I do? Why is it every time when I get to meet someone that I like and I was not given a chance to progress if that is the case why let me befriend them in the first place? Again Romans 8:28 has an answer to it. Lord I'm sick and tired of all this and I can't take anymore of this otherwise I'll go nuts. Thats the reason in my prayers to you Lord I keep saying "Save me Lord, Save me Lord" in English and Cantonese. That happens when I'm sleeping too, why has it always have to be like this Lord? I do not have a clue to it. Lord I'm very tired and I have this request Lord "By all means take me Home if I'm going to turn my backs from you to a point where there is no return in the future, please take me Home before it happens so that I can be part of the Kingdom in Jesus Name Amen"

Judgment Of God
Yes His timing and we DO NOT NEED to take matters into our own hands just as what the Lord promised in Romens 12:19-21 Do not avenge yourselves, dear friends, but give place to God’s wrath, for it is written, “Vengeance is mine, I will repay,” says the Lord. 12:20 Rather, if your enemy is hungry, feed him; if he is thirsty, give him a drink; for in doing this you will be heaping burning coals on his head. 12:21 Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.
The devil is smart he can't force us to do things against our will but he can create opportunities for us to sin and that is what he does best so do not fall into his trap by taking matters into our own hands but instead present it unto the altar and let God handle in the Heavenly fashion and God will gives us His answers in due course!
